Welcome to Steps 4 Strength
We believe that every step counts in the journey to create awareness for men’s mental health and suicide prevention. Steps 4 Strength is more than just a run – it’s a movement dedicated to supporting those in rural and regional Australia who are struggling in silence.
About the Challenge
Starting on May 25th, 2025, our founder Maddie Mortimer will undertake the incredible challenge of running 21 half marathons in 21 days. This monumental effort is dedicated to raising $210,000 for men’s mental health initiatives and suicide prevention. The funds will go directly to support the work of The Outback Mind Foundation, an organisation committed to providing mental health resources and support in remote areas where access to help is often limited.
This journey is also deeply personal. Maddie runs in honor of her father, Warren Paul Gunns, and for every man who feels they have to battle their struggles alone.
Why Men’s Mental Health?
Every year, too many men lose their battle with mental illness in silence. Suicide rates are higher among men, especially those in rural areas where resources are scarce. Steps 4 Strength aims to shine a spotlight on this issue and offer tangible support through fundraising, community events, and by encouraging open conversations around mental health.
Together, we can create safe spaces where men feel empowered to seek help without fear of judgement.
The Documentary: Capturing the Journey
Our mission goes beyond the runs. We’re creating a powerful documentary to capture the emotional and physical journey of Steps 4 Strength. This film will share Maddie’s story, the stories of men affected by mental health struggles, and the communities coming together to drive change. Through this documentary, we aim to inspire others to take action and raise awareness on a national scale.
